In the winter of 2013, Pamela Tinsley saw an opportunity—Macomb County, MI needed the presence of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Though actively serving in another chapter, she realized that the community where she lived was missing the direct impact of AKA’s service. A chance encounter at a local grocery store with fellow Sister Nina Davis confirmed this need, sparking the vision for a new chapter.

By June 30, 2015, the vision took form as the Persevering Pearls of Promise (P3) Interest Group, officially recognized by the then Great Lakes Regional Director, Ms. Toni S. Kendrick.  With determination, P3 launched into action, implementing AKA’s program targets and forging partnerships with local organizations such as ONEMACOMB, MCREST, Haven Place, and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). In just 18 months, the group logged significant service hours, proving that Macomb County was ready for a chapter of its own.

On October 24, 2016, the dream became reality—the P3 Interest Group was officially approved to become a chapter. On December 11, 2016, twenty-four phenomenal charter members proudly established Omega Xi Omega, the first graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® in Macomb County, Michigan.

Since its chartering, Omega Xi Omega has remained steadfast in its commitment to “Service to All Mankind”, expanding its reach, strengthening partnerships, and leaving a lasting impact on the community. What began as a vision in a grocery store aisle has blossomed into a thriving legacy of excellence and sisterhood to now over 70 women.
